HARTFORD – A new report released today from the Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) in Washington, D.C., shows that implementing a paid sick leave bill would actually save Connecticut businesses nearly $73 million each year.
IWPR and the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) are releasing the report in conjunction with Pay Equity Day because paid sick day benefits are considered a critical companion to equal pay in eliminating workplace discrimination and ensuring women’s economic security. A woman’s right to choose is under attack. Right wing opponents of health care reform are trying to turn a woman’s most basic medical right into a weapon against improved access to care for all. The administration continues to try to appeal to them by supporting so-called “conscience clauses” that will make abortion less accessible than ever! The murder of Dr. George Tiller may result in even fewer doctors braving the threats to provide abortion services. It is time to fight back! We need to make OUR voices heard.
