Women’s Day at the Capitol


February 9th is fast approaching and the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women is looking for oral or written testimony from the public on issues that are important to women.

Any interested individuals may testify by submitting oral and/or written or electronic testimony. For oral testimony, sign-up will begin at 9:00 a.m in the same room as the hearing. Oral testimony should be no longer than 3 minutes. Read the full story

Charter Oak Cultural Center-Beethoven’s String Trio

Beethoven’s String Trio

Artists – Leonid Sigal, violin; Patricia Daly, viola; Peter Zay, cello

In collaboration with the Hartford Symphony
This one-hour program encourages audiences to discover the unique characteristics of Beethoven’s music.
Each player will describe a musical element of Beethoven’s style of composition and the group will play snippets to demonstrate the point being discussed. Audience interaction is invited through questions and comments. Free admission.

Connecticut Opera’s Education and Outreach program, Opera Express, is on the move this week. Saturday, the group performs a presentation of arias and ensembles with acting exercises and audience participation for all ages. Adults: $8; children:$4; Hartford Public Schools students free. The loveable red head who reminds us that “The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow” is here to brighten the stage in the Theatre Guild of Simsbury’s production of the classic, Annie. The cast of more than 50 local actors features 25 area children (including two Annies chosen from a pool of more than 100 that auditioned) singing their hearts out about Annie’s life in the orphanage and her move to the home of Daddy Warbucks (and all of the drama in between.)
