This is horrifying. How deep (read: cruel) is our societal hysteria about marijuana? This shows pretty clearly how our idiotic assumptions about the plant - and that’s all it is, a plant - trump decisions of life and death.

….and the one the Army doc gives you is the freakiest of them all. At veterans centers in West Haven and around the country, researchers are trying to build a better U.S. soldier, one who doesn’t freak out in battle or return home to a lifetime haunted by bloody flashbacks. They are looking at drugs that can eliminate post traumatic stress syndrome. How about a pill to keep Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld or the next set of fearless leaders from sending other people’s children to war in the first place?

This week, testimony was given to the General Assembly on a proposed medical marijuana bill for Connecticut. The bill, HB 6715, would allow Connecticut residents with certain debilitating medical conditions to cultivate and use marijuana for palliative (relieving) purposes. A treating physician must provide an opinion that the benefits of the palliative use of marijuana outweighs the health risks for the patient. (more…)
