Howsoever, on the Veterans of Future Wars Monday Night at the Movies outing last night, we saw a movie  at Real Art Ways called “Romance and Cigarettes”. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll come out humming a tune. It’s worth stepping over a few bodies and dodging a few bullets to see.

This Saturday grab the Fall issue of the Hartford Undercurrent at Underween!

Underween is our annual costume party and celebration!

This year we’ll be launching the Fall 2007 edition of the Hartford
Undercurrent, having a costume contest, dancing, eating, and drinking.

The event is free and open to all ages.

The Real Art Ways’ doors will open at 7:30pm for this event.

The following is a correspondence from John Dennehy, former HIMC volunteer and intern. John has been traveling the world’s lesser known corners and reporting on what he witnesses there. John self-published a book of his letters, simply entitled Letters from Far Away. After spending much of the last two years in South America, John is now in the remote areas of India. Here is his latest letter:

Kerala

Yesterday I woke up in a city on the Arabian Sea called Calicut and I was happy with neither the city nor how I was feeling. Today is a new day. I was already feeling better by the time I left that place behind on a bus traveling south and things have only improved since. I picked a random dot on my map and waited for it to arrive. I don’t

This weekend Hartford loses its only music instrument shop. New England Music was the only full service musical instrument, recording, live audio and DJ supply shop in the city. And as of September 29, it belongs to West Hartford. When I visited last week, Mike Simonetta, one of the four guys that run the shop, told me that part of the reason for the move was the desire for more space - for workshops, private lessons and events. He also mentioned that Hartford is not exactly the most small business-friendly place on Earth. Sound like a broken record?
