I discovered this great resource for Hartford info. Trinity College has created these interactive maps for one of its classes, called Invisible Cities. They have maps for educational resources, problem properties, food resources, historical sites, and youth hangouts. The maps are adaptations of Google maps with custom points of reference plotted throughout city. According to the course website, Trinity hopes that “the information in the mash-ups will be useful to Hartford residents, empowering them by making their city more visible.” Students and faculty developed the maps with the help of Hartford Areas Rally Together (HART) and the now defunct Citizens Research Education Network (CREN). The problem properties link is especially good because it contains images of blighted buildings, and owner names and addresses. My only complaint is that most of the maps fail to include information from the north end of the city. It’s unclear whether these maps are still works in progress, or if they’re a done deal the way they stand.
Either way, check them out here:

There is actually going to be some kind of presentation on this at the education conference at Trinity on January 17th. It’s free and includes lunch.

The maps look great especially the food map. The West End Farmers’ Market at the UMC on Farmington ave was missing so I let them know about it. Thanks for the resource.
