My window looks out on a church parking lot, and I was gazing in that direction yesterday while the Foodshare truck was parked there. The line for provisions was alarmingly long, with quite a few children waiting alongside their parents. I don’t know how people shop in such a line, whether they get to ask for what they need or just take what’s offered, but they weren’t walking away with much, a bag or two. (more…)

Council Passes Immigration Resolution
Posted by Josh under Hartford , politics , immigration[3] Comments
The Council passed resolution #39 last night.
According to the Council Review, which is provided by Hartford 2000 and the Hartford Public Library, they first amended the resolution so that the 4th Whereas clause reads as follows (addition in bold type) “During a recent region wide search for the perpetrator of a serious crime, a large number of our citizens, who were in no way involved with said crime or the perpetrator, were tentatively identified as undocumented residents and arrested…”
This differs from the fine reporting of Heather over at Urban Compass. We’ll have to get a confirmation on the exact text.

Hartford, Come for the Mayhem, Stay for the Movies

That’s what the Metro Hartford Alliance’s new promo campaign could say.
Read the post below and maybe that headline will make sense. Howsoever, on the Veterans of Future Wars Monday Night at the Movies outing last night, we saw a movieĀ at Real Art Ways called “Romance and Cigarettes”. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll come out humming a tune. It’s worth stepping over a few bodies and dodging a few bullets to see.

Once again I had to stop mid-sentence to believe what I was reading on Dennis House’s blog–he actually wrote that Hartford is less dangerous than Disney. This is not what I expected to read from a person who is part of the same news media that specialize in making Hartford seem like the Wild West.
Sunday evening a man was shot dead at Norwich and Wyllys Streets, a few blocks from where I live. (more…)
