NLG Statement: Clean Slate, Governor Rell and the October 30th Community Conversation

The Clean Slate Committee, a project of A Better Way Foundation, is hosting a Community Conversation on October 30 at 6pm at the West End Community Center, 461 Farmington Avenue, Hartford.

Background to the Community Conversation
On September 28, the leaders of the Clean Slate Committee and their allies met with Governor Rell’s legal counsel to express opposition to the governor’s arbitrary and punitive measures against ex-offenders in the wake of the Cheshire murders. I listened to Kevin Lamkins’ visit with Stan MacCauley, Republican candidate for mayor of Hartford, on “Radioactive” a couple of days ago. MacCauley bills himself as a progressive Republican, and he offered more than a little support for his self-characterization. (more…)

One weekend last May videographers armed with disposable video cameras wandered the streets of Hartford. See what they came up with at a special screening tonight at La Paloma Sabanera, 405 Capital Ave., Hartford, at 7 p.m. and the after party at Red Rock Tavern, just down the street at 369 Capital Ave. Suggested donation, $20, but if you’re a little short, give what you can. All you need to know will appear by gently stroking your magic mouse.

They all depend on the kindness of strangers. Thanks to the Windsor Locks American Legion Post 36 and volunteer tradespeople and businesses donating labor and supplies, a soldier who lost his leg in Iraq is getting his home retrofitted for wheelchair use. Are all vets in need of help getting the same first-class treatment? Shouldn’t George’s compassionate conservative policies be paying for this as part of the responsibility for sending Americans off to war? What do all you conservative bloggers have to say on this? Next Thursday the 11th from 5 to 7:30 Knox Parks is celebrating the end of summer with their first (of many, I hope) Taste of CT Grown dinner featuring locally produced food at the Bushnell Park Cafe. A.P.B.- Swastika Guy on Farmington Ave.?

There have been reports of a white guy walking along Farmington Ave. with a gigantic
swastika hanging from around his neck.
He was seen once just over the West Hartford line by Temple Beth Israel and then again in the area near Braza restaurant. Both times he was on foot, walking along the avenue.
Any other sightings or description?
Thanks to the research of Peter Goselin, an active Nazi element as been uncovered in the Greater Hartford area. One of the most vocal Nazi activists is an employee at the Webster Theater. The Webster employee, who seems to be a prominent leader, goes by the screen name Ctskinhead88. New England Nazis have been very active recently, seemingly renergized by the anti-immigrant movement.
“Swastika man” may or may not be affiliated, but either way we need to smash these goons.
