Seven billion dollars in cash got misplaced in Iraq because of the “fog of war.” Either 30,000 or 650,000 Iraqis died in consequence of the U. S. occupation; the number’s not knowable because of the fog of war. (more…)

Weekend News: Better Pay Attention
Posted by kevin under it's the stupid media , government , justiceNo Comments
The government and media have this sneaky way of passing information along to the people: wait for the weekend. So as hundreds of millions of Americans were going to and from church, or sleeping in, or going out to brunch, another critical story of our time is passing through: the executive branch has committed crimes against its own people. Finally, the AP publishes a story that clearly outlines those culpable, in plain English. Read it here. Only one problem: it shows up on an early Sunday afternoon. If you’re not already doing so, read the news on weekends. It could save your life someday.

Hey media, time to step up to the plate. Anti-war activists are taking heart this week in the findings of the Pentagon’s Inspector General that pre-Iraq invasion intelligence was manipulated to enhance the case for war. Let’s hope there are some real consequences for this, other than for Democrats who now can try to play the “we were duped too” game when asked why they supported then a war they now oppose. Hopefully, though I’m not holding my breath, the media will smarten up as more and more “intelligence” surfaces about Iran’s supposed role in helping Iraq insurgents. Here we go again? (more…)

CCSU, Chez Est, UCONN Law, HIMC blogs… Where does it end?

I am sure by now everyone has heard about the CCSU campus newspaper article “Rape Only Hurts If You Fight It.” The Editors of the Recorder defended its publication stating that the author “Petroski” is a gifted satirist whose intended message fell on deaf ears. I must admit I have no idea whose ears were intended for statements like: rape as a magical experience or a that rape is a blessing for ugly women. (more…)

Coaltion to Stop the Shirley Q. Liquor Performance at Hartford’s Chez Est…
Posted by jerimarie liesegang under race , queer[9] Comments
A coalition of queer, lgbt and ally individuals/organizations are expressing outrage at the Chez Est refusing to cancel their scheduled performance of Knipp’s “Shirley Q. Liquor”. Knipp and the manager of the Chez Est (Bryan Couzens), both white men
, defend Knipp’s violent, racist and misogynist portrayal of black women by stating it is not racism and they are not racists ~ it is simply entertainment. Clearly their actions of bringing this vial act to Hartford speaks volumes that they are supporting racism!
The Hartford City Council will take up a resolution on Tuesday, Feb. 13 condemning the scheduled performance. The Hartford City Council has asked to hear from the public regarding support of this resolution. Resoundly say I SUPPORT THIS RESOLUTION!
