I just listened to your interview with Rev. Goodman. My reactions:
1. Lack of communication and trust was the source of the initial opposition to the location of the shelter. Most of this relates to the distrust of the City. And the lack of pre planning for this crucial need.
2. Don’t trash the BID. And do not try to compare Downtown Hartford to Manhattan.
3. From an organization that doesn’t pay taxes why does Reverend Goodman think that the City has the resources to deal with this? Or that all the homelessness in the region should be stuffed into Frog Hollow, Sheldon Charter Oak, South Green, Downtown and Clay Arsenal neighborhoods? Are CC members planning on petitioning their suburban towns to open shelters? Have they ever thought of doing this? That would be a much more productive thing to do. Your church members go away at night. We live here 24 by 7.
4. I have lived downtown for 20 years, have been a Board member of Hands on Hartford for 7 years and am a current board member of the BID.
