Connecticut voters will face a ballot initiative Tuesday and must decide whether or not hold a constitutional convention (Con Con) to propose amendments to the state constitution. The state is required to do so every twenty years, but this year it’s being pushed particularly hard by anti-gay marriage groups like the Family Institute of Connecticut. FIC and others seek to amend the state constitution to define marriage as between one man and one woman, thereby barring same gender couples from the state-granted institution, in spite of the state Supreme Court’s historic ruling last month. However, progressive groups such as CT Citizen Action Group (CCAG) are urging voters to oppose the Con Con. For more on this progressive perspective, click here.
